Buenos Aires International Circus Festival 2013

The Buenos Aires International Circus festival, hosted by the Buenos Aires Culture Department in conjunction with the French Embassy and Institute Français, is a 10-day extravaganza dedicated to avant-garde circus arts.

Acrobatics, trapeze, mime, adagio, aerial straps and physical theater shows take place in venues across the city with the big tops in Parque Patricios as the focal point.

2013 Buenos Aires Circus Festival

The festival’s fifth addition, taking place from May 9-19, will feature 70 events and 18 circus troupes, including eight international companies from as far away as Colombia, Sweden and England.

Previous editions have welcomed more than 130,000 spectators. Shows performed by national troupes are free to the public. Most events featuring international acts cost AR$70 , and there is one half-price ‘popular’ day for every event. International performances in the main tent in Parque Patricios cost between AR$60-AR$80 and are also half price on ‘popular’ days. See website, linked below, for details.

New in 2013 is an effort to include underrepresented neighborhoods with a tent at the Mataderos Amphitheater  in the Province of Buenos Aires, and free shows at the IndoAmerican Park, neighborhood cultural centers and even soup kitchens in villas (slums) 20, 21, 11, 1 and 14.

Free Events at Polo Circo

From 10 p.m. the public can enjoy free live music at the ‘Bar del Circo’ in the Polo Circo tent in Parque Patricios.
