The Buenos Aires International Circus festival, hosted by the Buenos Aires Culture Department in conjunction with the French Embassy and Institute Français, is a 10-day extravaganza dedicated to avant-garde circus arts.

Acrobatics, trapeze, mime, adagio, aerial straps and physical theater shows take place in venues across the city with the big tops in Parque Patricios as the focal point.

Polo Circo: Buenos Aires Circus Festival

The festival’s seventh addition, taking place from May 7-17, will feature 100 artists from 18 local and international circus troupes, including eight international companies from as far away as Colombia, Sweden and England.

Previous editions have welcomed more than 130,000 spectators. Shows performed by national troupes are free to the public. Events featuring international acts are AR$120 , and there is one half-price ‘popular’ day for every event. International performances in the main tent in Parque Patricios cost between AR$60-AR$80 and are also half price on ‘popular’ days. See website, linked below, for details.

In the last couple of years, festival organizers made an effort to include underrepresented neighborhoods with tents and even soup kitchens in two villas (slum neighborhoods), but this year they have downsized the festival.

Free Events at Polo Circo

National events are free. Tickets can be picked up from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. at El Cultural San Martín, Sarmiento 1551. Each person can receive up to four tickets for two events per visit.

From 10 p.m. the public can enjoy free live music at the ‘Bar del Circo’ in the Polo Circo tent in Parque Patricios.
