Although their chants celebrate Juan Domingo Péron, Néstor Kirchner and outgoing President Cristina Kirchner, they were celebrating a presumed win by Daniel Scioli. In Argentina 45% of the vote — or least 40% with a 10% lead over the runner-up — is required to win the presidency outright.

While polls indicated Scioli led by a 10 point margin, when the votes were counted, opposition leader, Mauricio Macri surprised everyone by capturing 34.3% of the vote. Scioli only received 36.9%, forcing a run-off in November.
